This month has been a huge life changing one for me...

For about 4 years, I began suffering from peri-menopausal symptoms.  Hot flashes, like ('Crazy Flop Sweats' whenever I would take a sip of coffee or wine), Night sweats, like (I had run a 100K marathon in my dreams), and mood swings, like (Everything in my life was really great, but for no reason at all, I felt like I was going to cry like the world was ending all the time)  It was so awful living this way.

I was not sleeping most nights and that wore me down even more. I went to my doctor and had my hormones tested.  Sure enough, I was slowly beginning the change of life and my body was taking it's sweet ass pimp time going into menopause, but my ovaries were healthy and still producing eggs, which meant this torture could continue for years.

In the last year, my menstrual cycle was crazy irregular and when it arrived, it was extremely painful and heavy so much, there were times I thought I was dying.  I was spending most of my time in bed abusing Motrin to try and function.  The blood loss was so extreme, I was becoming faint and almost passed out more than twice.  I still had to work at my full time intense start-up day job while this was all going on.  I took a break from jazz singing and managing the band.  I longed to perform beautiful music, but couldn't because of my suffering.  My life was a living hell.

I had to fight to get the help I needed.  I saw several doctors and finally found one who could help me.  They did several ultra sounds and saw that I had developed a 3 centimeter sized tumor in my uterine wall near my cervix.  I had never been pregnant, so my uterus was small.  I had read horror stories of woman who had fibroid's the size of grapefruits, but how could I be suffering so badly?  I had this little dark thing that didn't look like a fibroid in there.  They did a biopsy and is was benign, but this thing had to come out.

I had tried every natural remedy to help, with no relief.  We tried all kinds of birth control pills and medications to try and help the symptoms. Those side effects were worse than the original problems.  My last resort was surgery.  I love kids and wished I would have had some, but I am a young hearted 53 year old lady who is past my prime for that.

I did a lot of research to make this decision.  I have no cancer in my family tree, so keeping my ovaries would be easiest on my body.  I would wear an HRT patch to help manage the estrogen loss as I transition with the peri-menopausal symptoms. I would continue to go into menopause, keep producing all of the hormones needed to keep me happy and keep my libido in place. They would need to take everything else out, like (Permanent birth control with no more period EVER!)

So I did it!  I had a full laparoscopic robotic hysterectomy with a high uterosacral suspension, on Monday, September 12, 2016.  I went into the hospital at 10:00am, and was home the same day around 8:30pm.  They removed my uterus, tubes and cervix and anchored my vagina to keep it secure and in place.  I went under full general anesthesia and had no complications.  It took 5 days off from work to recover.  I was on major pain medications that I took every 4 hours. I certainly needed them.

I slept a lot and watched all 5 seasons of Arrow. (I think Stephen Amell - 'Oliver Queen' is delicious.  A great distraction while healing.)  The most pain I was having was gas pain from the CO2 they filled me with during surgery that was trying to escape my body.  You have pains all over, it's really weird.  I ate soup and little sammiches. I did not do keto and did eat sugar & fruit and flour, I ate some chocolate. But kept my calories around 1500 per day. I did drink lots of water. I was very sore and swollen.  I could walk but not do stairs for the first week very well.

I was able to work from home the second week.  This is when the other problem began. The side effects from the pain meds caused bad constipation.  Imagine that. Your whole area down there is full of staples and stitches inside and you can't poo.  You can't push or you would pop the staples. It became really awful. I was in agony.  They had given me stool softener to help, but it didn't help at all. I tried almost everything, but what ended up working was drinking a bottle of Cherry flavored Roto Rooter ~ Magnesium Citrate Dulcolax.  That got everything moving and working normal again. I stopped taking the heavy pain meds and started on Motrin.  The day after this, I felt like a miracle had happened

I AM OUT OF PAIN - FOR REALS!

I feel like the dark cloud that had been over my spirit for so long, has been blasted away and has freed me.  I feel amazing!  I sort of feel like a 12 year old girl again.  I will never have a period again, that is celebration enough, but I seriously feel clear headed and balanced again. I had brain fog and memory issues due to all of the pain meds I had been taking for so many years.  The patch is seriously helping the other symptoms too.

I am feeling so good, I went back to work on week 3 and had to take it slow.  I am not supposed to lift anything heavy or overdo it.  I was exhausted the first day, but every day afterward, I felt a little stronger. Then I made a huge mistake.  I lifted something that apparently WAS too heavy for me and injured my staples inside.  It was only maybe ten pounds, but maybe it was how I lifted it. This was yesterday. I had these big plans, and now have to back step and start over.  I am back in bed healing.  For those that know me, this is the hardest part.  I am a fireball and it's hard to stay in place when I feel so good.

I am laying low and trying not to over do anything, which is really hard for me with all the fun stuff that is going on in my life right now.  My favorite Hardly Strictly Bluegrass is happening this weekend, and I will not be going.  I am watching it on the live webcast. Next weekend is my big Artcar Fest 20th Anniversary weekend.  My Leopard Lair Ultra Lounge VW Bus engine just got rebuilt and the guys are breaking in the new engine.  It won't make it in time for the show, so I am doing something fun and silly to my Honda Passport for next weekend.
I have had a secret Gnome fetish for years.
The New Naughty Gnome Art Car will be there.
I learned from my experience with the Squirly Whirly Art Car, the Gnomes would not last one night in public without being vandalized and abducted. These Gnomes are naughty and awesome. Fuckers would be taking them off and stealing them, straight away.  I have a plan to keep them safe and won't keep them on my car after the big weekend. Sad to say but true. I'll get my original art car back soon and continue the restoration project. My Honda just has one Gnome keeping an eye out for me, (Louis was only vandalized once so far) but it's more mundane as my daily driver.

                                                             Lookout Louis
My hood ornament on my Honda Passport 4 wheel drive.
Meanwhile, I am taking it slow and being careful not to do too much, which is Really Hard for me because I feel so awesome in every other way.  I do a little more everyday.  I weighed myself and the scale said 229 pounds. I somehow gained 14 pounds this month. Shocking!  I asked my doctor if this is normal. He said that surgery is a trauma to the your body and my body's natural reaction is to accumulate lots of extra water while it recovers from the shock.  I won't even measure myself yet. The swelling is still there, so I don't think it would be accurate.

So it's back onto a Ketogenic diet lifestyle and Intermittent Fasting protocols.  This really works for me, but it takes shopping, planning, prepping, and cooking.  I had been alone doing best I could to care for myself all month, making easy stuff, eating out and doing take-out delivery.   I need to get back on track and get to my goal.  Once I am healed completely, I plan to get back in the gym and get toned and strong again.

A Giant step was made, some steps backward, but Huge Steps Forward for the better!

One more pound gone!

Hi All,

I'm still pretty sick with this cold/flu bug, but I lost one more pound this week.  I have a deep nasty cough and I relapsed with a fever again last night.  My body is still fighting this thing off.  I feel like crap, but happy to still be on track.

Sick as a dog.

OMG I GOT A GREAT NEW JOB!

Bad news is the scale has not moved.  I'm still stuck at 220lbs. but I did get a new job!  I just accepted an offer to work at a very exciting biotech start-up in San Francisco.

The stars are aligned and I am making changes for the better.  I heard I will be able to have a UCSF Club membership, so I will use their gym, indoor pool and take classes.

IT'S A NEW YEAR IN EVERY WAY!

8 months Post-op VSG Today ~ 61 Pounds Lost Total So Far!

I lost one pound this week.  My weightloss has slowed down, but one pound is better than gaining one. : )  My measurements are the same.  It's 34 weeks, but I had my VSG surgery on May 29, 2015.  Today is my 8 month anniversary.

I found some old photos unpacking last night. Here is Doug Wendt and I in our 10 piece funk band "Soul Attraction" at a gig in SF - my mom took this photo. Great Memories!  What's totally sad is I thought I was fat back then.  So, THIS is what I look like when I'm thin!

Doug and I met when I auditioned for a blues band in 1992. Then we were in Soul Attraction for 5 years and then he and I started Dangerous Martini together back in 1999.  The music project came to a close in 2013.  This photo gives me great motivation!

It will feel good to be back to my old self again in my skin.

Sexy songs in my heart....

I'm still in a weight loss stall, at 223 lbs. but I feel smaller.  I have lost another inch measurement wise. I did just move up a long tall flight of stairs. That is a work out indeed!

My weight loss is slowing down, but I expected this.  It's going to take as long as it's gonna take to get to my goal weight of 145lbs. I'm half way to my goal.  It's been 33 weeks since my VSG surgery, and I feel great, but I sure want to get into the 100's on the scale. THAT WILL BE A HAPPY DAY WHEN I GET THERE.   I start my membership at the new gym today.  I get a free session with a personal trainer to start, that should help.

I am working on a new Jazz music project.  My old band was called DANGEROUS MARTINI.  I played the role of Femme Fatale Torch Singer.  In my new project, I portray something as classic yet, surprising in artistic expression.  My sound  is a sultry female Tom Waits, Dorothy Parker, Robbie Robertson meets Peggy Lee vibe that looks somewhere in between a James Bond Girl & one of the the Mad Men ladies ...still dangerous - but in a Libra Rising, Scorpio in Venus in the first house kind of way. : )

I have this vision of me singing jazz on stage this year...
...wearing a long sexy form fitting black dress and feeling beautiful.

No changes still at 221 lbs.

I have relocated my homestead... busy unpacking, cleaning and organizing.  I have to still unpack my scale!  : )  I am getting rid of stuff.  This year I am lightening my load in many ways.  I am seeking to become more paperless and a minimalist.  Uncluttered my world.

My new closet is a nice size, Yay!  No changes, still in a stall.  I will measure myself next week and give a report.  I love my new place!  There is room in the garage for a treadmill, but until I find a reasonable one, I have joined the gym at my place of work.  They have EVERYTHING THERE!  They have all kinds of classes too.  I have never tried Zumba or Power Pilates before, so I am going to give these a whirl.  I know me, if it's fun, I'll keep doing it.

It's time to get on the hamster wheel and get to my goal of 145 lbs.  My next mini goal 199 lbs. To break the 200's and get into the 100's on the scale!

New treadmill and smaller ass coming soon!

A Very Happy New Year!

I got on the scale this morning and am at 221 lbs.  I gained a pound over the holidays.  I did eat some cookies and drank some Egg Nog.  I did have a totally fantastic birthday. Usually I do a big Crab Feed on my birthday every year, but this year Dungeness Crab Season was A BUST here in the San Francisco Bay area.  So I did a BIG Prime Rib Feast instead.  I smoked 1 full rack of Prime Rib and slow roasted another one in the oven.  I had a big birthday party for Doc Scott, my Sagittarius bro and myself.

For the past few years, I have been making fun crab horror movies with my friends on my birthday, so I made sure we made the most of the 2015 Crab Season.  Here is this years movie just completed:

I had a lovely Christmas, saw my family and it was very happy, sad, weird and emotional.  I did do some emotional eating and drinking.  New Years Eve was awesome (FYI: I drank Champagne without tummy troubles : o ) and today, I'M MOVING out of Pacifica, CA to a great big house closer to where I work in South San Francisco, CA.  I just picked up the keys today.  So I am getting my workout BIG TIME packing and moving this weekend.

I work in Biotech in the Biotech Bay.  I would love to live in San Francisco, but the rent prices are higher than ever before in history.  So I chose to share a big house with some young, fun ladies.  1 is a nannny, 1 is a flight attendant at SFO, 2 work at my same company.  I will be able to save some money, set-up a Treadmill to use daily in the garage and park my Classic Restored 1973 T2 VW Camper Bus there without it turning into a rust bucket by the sea.  It is a new year with bright new beginnings.

Once I get settled into my new digs, I will post this years Glamp-O-Rama event schedule for 2016.  Many adventures ahead! I hope to meet some new fun people this year!  STAY TUNED!

My next weight loss goal is to get to 199 lbs. ~ out of the 200's and into the 100's on the scale. (Technically - 181lbs. is a limestone goal for me because that will be a loss of 100 pounds.)  I will get to my goal weight of 145 lbs., hopefully around this time next year.  It will take as long as it takes, but I will get there.

I HOPE YOU HAD A
FABULOUS HOLIDAY SEASON
AND WISH YOU A
TOTALLY EXCELLENT NEW YEAR!

28 Weeks VSG Post-Op 61 lbs & 39 inches Lost so far!

I honestly can't believe it but I lost another pound as of this morning!  I ate all kinds of stuff over my big birthday weekend and drank eggnog, ate cake, and indulged a bit.  I thought for sure I would gain weight.  BUT NO!  I lost one more pound and lost another inch total.  I didn't eat a lot, but I tasted a little bit of everything.  I do have to say, I feel better when I eat protein first.  If I don't, I feel that empty hunger feeling, but nothing like I used too - they removed my Ghrelin "Hunger hormone" in the VSG surgery, it is certainly not the same.  I eat mostly, eggs, meat, soups and salads.

220 lbs.  61 pound and 39 inches lost so far!

VSG and the holidays are easy right now because I'm still in the honeymoon phase.  Come 2016, I need to really focus on getting down to my goal weight of 145 lbs.  It may take me a year or so, but I am okay with that.  The most important part is my heart arrhythmia has gone away, I have normal blood pressure for the first time in 20 years and I no longer have sleep apnea.

I have more energy, feel younger and can do a lot more active fun things without the pain I used to experience everyday.  I still have some back, knee and joint pain, but it doesn't stop me from going out like it once did.  The quality of my life is much better overall.  I am only half way to my goal weight.  I am sure once I get small, I will be feeling much better.

I will be stepping up my work-outs to get toned and getting a sexy hunky personal trainer to show me the basics and getting my own treadmill will be something I am adding to my weekly and daily routine come 2016.

IT'S ALL ABOUT STAYING MOTIVATED!

Week 27 Post-Op VSG ~ 59 pounds lost so far!

It's Friday and my weigh in this morning I was 222 lbs.  I lost one more pound and one more inch on my thighs, Yay!   I am happy with this. At least I did not gain any weight. : )   I still have mental issues around food.  I worry about eating, ANYTHING.  A lifetime of chronic dieting will do that to a person.  Writing down what I eat has helped me feel more conscious of what I am actually eating.  I just don't want to be stuck in a weight-loss stall again.  I also don't want to feel deprived and begin a freak out that way either.

It's the holiday season and the GOOD sweets are EVERYWHERE!  My one and only true trigger food is chocolate.  In fact, if I had one day to live, and someone were to grant me my very last thing to eat before I died, I know EXACTLY what I would eat.   THIS....
I am far from being able to eat something like this without the horrible dumping syndrome happening. Sugar makes me feel very ill, I mean so ill that it ruins my day kind of ill.  I can eat berries and drink juice, but straight up sweets makes me feel so bad that I need to crawl into bed due to stomach cramps and nausea.  I still dream of my little french bistros. Maybe after I reach my goal, I will get to share one of these with someone special next year?

I'm grateful for this tiny tummy tool to help me get to my next weight-loss goal of 219 lbs. hopefully by my birthday on Dec. 13th...  We will see!  Doing the carb cycling still is the easiest way to stay on track for me.  When I do get chocolate cravings, I reach for a low carb Weight Watchers Ice cream bar.

I'm losing slowly, I don't have any excess skin so far. I am getting smaller all over, you can really see it now.  I'm feeling great!

VSG & the Holidays...

It's my first holiday season with my tiny tummy.  I cooked a lot, and tasted a little bit of everything.  You can see a body shot of me so far kind of in the video.  Here are the highlights....

On Sunday, it will be officially 6 months Post Op VSG Surgery!  58 Pound Loss!

I got on the scale and still am at 223 lbs.  YAY!  It's not food calories that I am worried about so much, it's the alcohol calories.  Holiday cocktails go down WAY TOO EASY. I am not going to freak out if I gain a couple pounds, but I will get my ass out there and walk more to make up for the indulgences that befall my next month of good times.

Eggnog Martini's!
I will not deprive myself during this season, but not over eat go crazy overboard either.  When I do try something high carb, I mark it down as my high carb day and then go back to low carb the next day.  This is something I can live with as a lifestyle.

Last night at a party, one of my friends came up to me and said, "I looked great."  He said it in a sort of, "Wow your HOT kind of way."   It felt good to hear.  I feel good and I'm dressing a little nicer than I used too.  I'm wearing things that are a little more form fitting.  I guess my change is beginning to really show on the outside now.  It feels good.

I have a long way to go still before
I make my goal weight of 145 lbs.

Holy Crap! I have hip bones...

I worked 64 hours this week.  This is not something I am used to doing.  There was no time for lunch breaks or for exercise.  I still lost one more pound, yay!  The new discovery in my body changes are, I HAVE HIP BONES!  My fat is melting away and my hip bones are beginning to show.  FAROUT.

58 pounds lost so far!

My body is becoming more refined and lean, and it's starting to really show.  I still have a long way to go, but I can see and feel a huge change happening.
